Q: She is in the terminal stages of bone cancer. She is only 22 years old. No kids and never been married. However she lives here in Michigan on her own, as her family all lives out of state. I am looking for a way to raise money to help get her through the rough times as she has to take time off of work. As well as a way to help her family pay for anything the future has to hold for her.. The doctors are only giving her about 6 months. So I need to get this up and going as soon as possible. If there is anyone out there that can help me with this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I beg you for your help.. Thank you very much.. and I hope to hear from you soon
A: First, I would create an event. Figure out what exactly you want to do to raise money. A dinner, a gala, a ball, or a simple bbq would probably work well. Create a flyer with her picture and why the fundraiser is being hosted. Ask local businesses to put up the flyer, and make a small donation. Use the "every little bit counts" motto. Contact the vendors, and see what they are willing to do for you. At this point, why not start an organization in her name, and in the future, any money raised after her bills are covered, you can donate money to bone cancer research...people are more likely to donate if there is a future to the money. Ask people to purchase tickets. Have a chinese auction, a silent auction, etc. Ask local businesses to make donations. Ask her work to contribute...maybe her co-workers can have a jeans day for a donation. Ask local schools to help...students can wear pajamas to school for a dollar donation. Just start contacting people, pleading her case (make sure you have doctor's information, so it doesn't seem like you are trying to scam anyone), and raising as much as possible.
