Q: I am interested in Diwali so would like to know more about it. All I know is that it is an Inidian celebration of the triumph of good over evil in every person AKA the Festival of Lights. It sounds like a great celebration! Does anyone know where there will be celebrations of this in or around New Jersey (NY ok too)? I would love to attend. Thanks!
A: It is a celebration in each Hindu home; just like Christmas. All pray in the house only. Again like Christmas, they do visit the temple. In NJ area there are lots of Indian temples that has a festive air during these days. Will let you know if I find a site. People clean and decorate the house and light lamps or candles or electric lights these days. It is a festival of Oil Lamps actually. Called Deepawali. Meaning Rows of lamps. they make sweets, wear new clothes and then pray for prosperity. Happy Diwali* !
